A small silk uchishiki featuring a finely-embroidered crane and family crest. The mandarin crane stands for good fortune and long life. The clouds are made up of metallic couching, with the mon consisting of both regular and couching embroidery. All very fine work on a rare white felt-wool background. The age 1861 is known because it was once part of a pair that had Japanese writing on the back that among other things, denoted the year 'Bunkya 1', which is equivalent to the year 1861. Very good condition, with some slight fraying on the wool background. 12.5" x 12.5"
