A silk antique irotomesode featuring large elegant cranes above a swirling ocean. Yuzen-dyeing with embroidery highlights. Five mon (family crests), so the most formal of irotomesode. Very good condition, with minor imperfections. 49" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 60" height. Iro-tomesode is the second most formal kimono and is similar to the kuro-tomesode, except that it has light colours instead of being black. It can be worn at weddings by married women not closely related to the bride or groom or at other happy, festive occasions. The artwork on this kimono is very effective. The two large cranes above a swirling sea all against a deep saturated blue sky are accomplished in such a way as to be sublime.
