Item Details
Meiji Period (1868-1911)
A tall silk kimono featuring hundreds of hand-drawn star motifs. The silk has unusual horizontal textural ribbing, and every three inches or so there is a vertical metallic thread insert that can's be seen from a distance. The stars are colored with yuzen-dywing ( a type of resist-dye painting). The 66" height as well as the unusual icinography leads us to believe that this was a special-purpose kimono - perhaps for dance or a theatrical play. Very good condition, with minor imperfections. 50" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 66" height.
