Item Details
17th century (1625-1700)
This large, unusual embroidery utilizes several stitching techniques as well as a broad palette of colored silk thread. Some utilization of copper-colored metallic threads on the main, while the two-inch border and center design are exclusively of gold or gold-colored metallic thread. Condition is good for age, with no damage distracting from the overall aesthetics. There are, however, countless loose threads and a few small "bald" areas (1x2" and 1x1") near the corner of the textile. Considerable wear along the metallic edges. Original fine silk backing material is crumbling to an extent from brittleness due to age, but remains on the whole, intact. 129"x 48".
