Mid-19th c (1830-1870)
This interesting embroidery is made of finely embroidered appliques done in seed stitch ("forbidden stitch"), silk floss, and couching. Each applique is lightly glued to an single sheet of fragile, soft textured hand-made rice-paper. It has been folded in the center, and thus perhaps was part of a special heritage book. Silk-work is extremely fine. Embroidery in excellent condition, with some foxing on the paper. Total paper dimensions: 18" x 10"
