This huge Chinese valance is made of a red silk background with colorful embroidery and gold couched work. The cranes, dragons, foo dogs and flowers all outlined in gold metallic threads. This textile was hung for ceremonial use, perhaps a wedding. There is a black silk trim border with hand knotted beige silk fringe tassels hanging along the bottom. The cloth is completely hand stitched on a linen backing and then lined in a brown silk. Very good condition, with unobtrusive small areas of fraying. 140" length x 44" main body height plus 10" fringe.
