An unusual silk kimono featuring mountain and waterfall landscape scenes that consist of pre-screened black and white outlines, with all the other colors laboriously hand-painted with pigment dyes. Some sections have highlights in the form of parallel gold and silver metallic supplementary threads (see "detail closer" image) Very good condition, with minor imperfections. 49" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 57" height. Roughly 85% of Japan is covered by mountainous terrain, and thus mountains feature prominently in art that is landscape-based.
