A rare Buddhist felt-wool dedication textile., featuring applique and embroidery. Dated 1879 on the back cotton lining. Very good condition, with minor imperfections. 35" x 43" . Followers of Buddha believe that a 'Houyu' [symbolized via the two large white onion-shaped motifs on this textile] is a magical wish-granting jewel. This jewel can signify the bestowal of blessings on all who suffer, grant wishes, pacify desires, and bring clear understanding of the Dharma (Buddhist law).
