A remarkable rinzu silk woman's haori featuring bold hemp-leaf motifs created utlizing a wax-resist technique, over which are several embroidered floral motifs. The wax-resist technique is referred to in Japan as "roketsuzome" -- it is akin to batik in Indonesia. One rarely finds extant examples of older wax-resist garments in Japan, likely due to their being few craftpeople expert in that technique. Very good condition, with minor imperfections. 48" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 36" height.
