Early Showa period (1926-1940)
A rinzu (damask) silk luxury haori (woman's jacket) featuring large yuzen-painted "tsubaki" (camellia) motifs with metallic and silk thread embroidery highlights. In the background are woven flowers with red urushi-thread (lacquered) highlights. Horizontal supplementary inserts that change color to match their surroundings. Single mon (family crest), so this would have been a semi-formal jacket (most woman's haori lack any family crests). 50" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 38" height. The figured silk background has "ume" (plum blossom), kiku" (chrysanthemum), and orchid motifs.
