This exceptional hikizuri, a geisha dancing dress, features vivid hawk, wave, and pine motifs crafted with masterful yuzen-painting, sumi-e painting, and silk and metallic embroidery. Measuring 48 inches (122 cm) from sleeve-end to sleeve-end and standing at 67 inches (170 cm) in height, it symbolizes the power and longevity of the Tokugawa shogunate in Japan. Established by Tokugawa Leyasu, this feudal regime ruled from Edo Castle during the Edo period, from 1603 until its abolition in 1868 during the Meiji Restoration.
